Riccardo – Life Forms

November 17, 2015 • By

Since the ripe age of 15, Riccardo has been involved with electronic music and has not stopped. Today he is most commonly known for the success of his bassline-heavy house tunes and the record label “Imprints”, which he started in 2012 with Domenico Rosa. Recently he has played all over Europe and even in New York, next to artists such as Alex Picone, Binh, Nicolas Lutz, Valentino Kanzyani and Dana Ruh. He has played for all the parties we adore, including Seekers, Sleepers, Kulture, Loft, Pragmatism, Rework, Cartulis Day, DAMAGED and so forth. A studio addict indeed, he can spend hours each day working on beats and exploring new sounds with his analogue instruments. Here he shows us another side to his talent as he delves into some serious synth business and modulations, live all the way.

Tommy Vicari Jnr: An essential cult producer

November 11, 2015 • By

The term ‘underground hero’ is something of an overused cliché in music journalism, yet in this case it can probably be forgiven. Instead of embracing the hype that has surrounded his name during his 14 year career, Tommy Vicari Jnr has a reputation for keeping his head down, avoiding the limelight and focusing on making and releasing tracks that are distinctly his very own.  As an obsessive and prolific producer, with his own unique style, Tommy is one of few artists around who still maintains what could be described as a ‘cult’ underground following. While he has had his fair share of big well-known club tracks, arguably too few recognize his importance as a multi-label owner, a dedicated supporter of underground talent and the man behind a fairly substantial list of production aliases and groups with a consistently high quality of output.

Little Nobody : This is Tokio

November 10, 2015 • By

Disco, dubstep, IDM, glitch, broken beat, hip hop, cut up and mixed into danceable electro/house/techno tracks is Little Nobody aka Andrez Bergen’s speciality. We all remember that first release on My Own Jupiter, ‘The Knock Off’, which first introduced many to this music fiend, and which has also become a modern day cult classic. Thanks to a mini statement a few weeks back, we can now look forward to Nicolas Lutz’ A&R skills combining a double LP of stranger than usual techno delicacies, from a 15 year catalogue of extremely hard to find works of yes, Little Nobody himself! Even more, it’s not only music that is his forte, but also visual mapping, label managing, coding, manga and crime fiction writing, which makes this all around creative dude perfect for an interview…. Read on “if you’re curious or can be bothered”, as Andrez would say…

Your Friend Ed Jus-Ed That is

October 29, 2015 • By

From posting home videos to dedicating much of his music to his children (i.e. ‘Father Feelings’ album, and lyrics in his latest ‘Brothers’ ep) Jus-Ed is not afraid to show how much of a family guy he really is. That’s him, Jus-Ed, and he doesn’t give a Jams Fuck about what you think! In fact, he is probably considered like a father to many, if not several hundreds, even thousands, thanks to his tunes that have been played out constantly by established Djs around the world, and of course his Underground Quality label & crew he set up and nurtured over the past decade. Jus-Ed is one of THE fathers of the underground. He is also a truly heartwarming, spiritual dude, and it’s not just his dreadlocks that give it away. Listen to him educate you and you will understand. We get a good dose ourselves on one unusually warm summer day at Peckham’s Number67 cafe…

If You Meet Me, Manzini

October 8, 2015 • By

Even though Matteo Manzini has lived in London for more than six years, certain values from his hometown of Bologna remain: duty, equality, with a dose of revolutionary. He leads matters in DAMAGED parties with a headstrong attitude, while showing his soft, even mischievous side when he gets behind that DJ booth. Whether it is a dark, minimal 30-minute track or a classical Chopin piano piece, Matteo is in love with music and partying, and has been since the ripe age of adolescence. Here he opens up to us while also providing a playlist of endearing and stranger than usual tracks that have inspired him over the years…

Get Perlonized with Sammy Dee

October 5, 2015 • By

Sammy Dee has been hailed as an innovator of the “off kilter” sound, that very much defines Perlon’s style of music. He is not just a producer, but a celebrated DJ, party organiser, and a label & club owner too. He is of course known to many as a defining figure in Perlon with his own solo productions as well as his releases with Zip as Pantytec. Let’s not forget his efforts to co-run and DJ at the highly anticipated Get Perlonized parties in Berlin’s Panorama Bar, as well as Aufgebasst at Club Der Visionäre or Hoppetosse. The last time we saw him was at the Get Perlonized party as well as Toi Toi in Barcelona for Off Week… Was a beautiful weekend indeed!

Alex Picone Reps Seekers

September 30, 2015 • By

Say What? opens its interview and podcast series with one of our favourite and most proactive underground artists in this dance music sphere. Alex Picone is truly someone we look up to; Leading difficult projects with success while remaining extremely humble. Most recently, he started Seekers, a concept that puts music and people first, with their perfectly curated parties and well-received label releases. The first ep on the label titled A Bit was produced by Alex Picone himself, while the second and most recent release showcases Ewan Jansen’s Rip Tide ep.
